Nemanja Matic hails Man Utd youngsters after Astana win in Europa League

Nemanja Matic had a very simple message for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Manchester United's win over Astana in the Europa League: "The kids are alright."

Mason Greenwood was on target for the Red Devils as his second-half strike earned them victory and all three points in their opening European fixture this term.

It was the 17-year-old's first senior goal and provided a moment for United fans to savour as they look towards a brighter future.

Greenwood was joined by fellow teenagers Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes in the starting XI, while Axel Tuanzebe was given the nod at the heart of the defence.

And Matic was full of praise for the young players after the game, stressing the importance of first-team minutes for their development.

"It’s good for them, to have this opportunity to play these games," Matic told BT Sport.

"We have to use these games to get more chances during the season. It’s great the club gives more chance to young players to improve, because they can only improve if they play the games.

"I’m happy for them and it is good for them.

"They’re young, they want to prove they should wear the shirt so they are the future of the club and I wish them all the best."
