NELSON Bay marina has opened a week after a sewage pipe leak closed the town's waterfront for days in peak season.
Port Stephens Council confirmed the marina had reopened Monday. Beaches between the marina and Fly Point were closed last week, with the area staying off limits until late last week when water quality testing cleared the way for a reopening.
The council said testing showed quality was back to normal levels, but they will monitor it "to ensure conditions remain safe" in the wake of last Monday's leak.
The council on Thursday announced beaches from Little Nelson Bay to Fly Point had been reopened but the Nelson Bay marina foreshore would stay closed.
The council said at the time water quality had "improved significantly" at Nelson Bay marina but that a decision had been made to keep the foreshore closed for recreational activities over the weekend as a precaution.
Council also thanked locals, visitors and businesses for their patience during this time.
