Nelson Bay beaches closed due to sewage leak

Beaches from Nelson Bay marina to Fly Point and SPLASH Waterpark have been closed due to a sewage leak and the community is advised to avoid swimming in the area.

A sewage main was damaged during excavation works on Monday morning at Teramby Road, Nelson Bay and began leaking into the harbour.

Port Stephens Council said the leak was currently contained within the harbour and Hunter Water were working to repair the sewage main.

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), SafeWork NSW and Fire and Rescue NSW have also been notified.

Beaches from Nelson Bay marina to Fly Point, including the marina and SPLASH Waterpark have been closed for the day as a precaution.
