Neil Young's Hyde Park show with Bob Dylan will 'proceed without Barclays as sponsor'

Barclaycard has pulled out of sponsoring Neil Young’s show at Hyde Park next summer, the singer has claimed.

Young, a known environmentalist, had previously expressed his dismay at Barclaycard sponsoring his joint-headline gig with Bob Dylan, calling Barclays a “fossil fuel funding entity”.

However, a statement posted today on the Neil Young Archives website read: “NYA is happy to announce that the Hyde Park show will proceed without Barclays as a sponsor. We are overjoyed, so happy to be playing the show!”

The statement confirmed that “NYA tickets to all tiers will be available today”. Tickets are on general sale now.

Organisers for the Barclaycard presents British Summer Time concert series said: "Neil Young has made the decision to move away from the Barclaycard presents British Summer Time concert series.

"Neil Young and Bob Dylan will play a stand-alone concert in Hyde Park on the same date, July 12. All tickets will remain valid. The Barclaycard presents British Summer Time concert series remains unaffected and will continue as normal with more headliners to be announced in early 2019."

Earlier this week, Young had also slammed the initial announcement of his show, calling it a “massive f***-up”.

In a separate post on the NYA website, the singer claimed he had “no idea the announcement was coming that day”.

Young wrote: “I was still finessing the art for the poster and trying to make sure all the details of the show were agreeable to me.

“Then, suddenly someone jumped the gun. The tickets were put on sale and the announcement was made, all without my knowledge.”

Young’s gig at Hyde Park will take place on July 12, alongside Dylan, with more acts to be announced. Robbie Williams, Florence + The Machine and The National are among the other big names confirmed for BST in 2019.
