Neil Warnock takes aim at former club Leeds United with a dig at quality of Championship

Neil Warnock has criticised his former club Leeds United , suggesting their place at the top of the league is a sign that the Championship is decreasing in quality.

The 71-year-old, who succeeded Simon Grayson as Whites boss in February 2012, was speaking about how he assessed the state of play in the second-tier.

He’s previously achieved promotion to the Premier League with Sheffield United, Queen’s Park Rangers and Cardiff City, but didn’t complete a full season in charge of Leeds, leaving the club in April 2013 as it sat five points above the relegation zone going into the final month of the season.

Warnock started this season in charge of Cardiff as he looked to guide them back up to the Premier League but left his post as Bluebirds manager in November with the club in 14th after winning just five of 16 games.

“I think Fulham’s got the best squad, if I’m honest, in the whole league”, said Warnock in an interview with TalkSport .

“I think Brentford have got the best strikers.

“West Brom and Leeds are both up there, but in a good season, I think they’re both… Not run of the mill but I don’t think they are top of the league.

“Whether the league’s gone the other way, I think they’ve just been consistent really and that’s why they’re up there.”

Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites are currently top of the division, ahead of second-place West Bromwich Albion on goal difference, with a nine-point lead over Brentford and Nottingham Forest.

Scott Parker’s Fulham sit fifth, ten points behind Leeds.
