Neil Warnock sends Cardiff quit threat to board after Premier League relegation

Veteran manager Neil Warnock has appeared to suggest he will only stay on as Cardiff City manager if he is promised money to spend this summer.

The Bluebirds' relegation was confirmed last weekend when they lost 3-2 to Crystal Palace but it is thought owner Vincent Tan is keen for Warnock to stay and try to take the side straight back up to the Premier League next season.

Much may depend on a meeting next week, with Warnock looking to set down his expectations for the summer ahead.

“I’m seeing Mehmet (Dalman, Cardiff chairman) and Ken (Choo, chief executive) on Monday – we’re having a full day together, discussing all aspects of the club,” he said.

Neil Warnock makes outrageous claim about Man Utd's Premier League future

“I’ve got my own idea of what I want to say to them and to try and help the club going forward, and I’m sure Mehmet and Ken will be transferring our conversation to Vincent.

“We will need two or three signings to get us up there and give us a shout because that’s what I want to do.

“I think we’ve arrived as a football club this year. We’re a big club now and we’ve got to think big now.”

This has been Warnock's 40th year in management, yet he is still as enthusiastic as ever about the future. He believes Cardiff still have the potential to establish themselves as a regular top-flight club, and compared them to a current Premier League team.

Premier League predictions: Robbie Savage makes Man City and Liverpool title tip

“We’re well down the way to starting our new training complex, which is exciting I think,” he added.

“These kind of things are what’s needed. That’s what Burnley did when they got relegated – they signed a few good players, started on their new training ground and came straight back up.

“All we’ve got to do is see if we can get the right players in to give us a chance. Without the players I think we’ll be one of a number of teams but if we get two or three good players in, I think we could set off the season on a high and continue throughout.”
