Neil Warnock says what all Leeds United fans will fear if Championship season restarts

Former Leeds United boss Neil Warnock has assessed the club's chances of securing promotion, admitting they have "blown up" in the past.

The Whites sit top of the table but the campaign has been suspended since March due to the coronavirus crisis, although the EFL is hoping for matches to resume behind closed doors next month.

If the 2019/20 does resume, Leeds will have nine matches to get over the line and, while he hopes that Marcelo Bielsa's side will clinch promotion, he admits they have encountered problems in the past.

"I hope that they can get the opportunity to finish it off, even if it is behind closed doors. For so long, how many years (have they been trying to get back in the Premier League)? Even when I was at Leeds," he told Sky Sports.

"The fans were amazing and they do deserve to be back in there. But the other clubs, they know that Leeds have blown up in the past, in the last few games. So you wouldn't write your Fulhams and your Brentfords off, because of the three points for a game.

"So I do hope that they finish the nine games, even if it's behind closed doors. And I'm not too bothered how long it takes."

Championship clubs are due to return to training on Monday and another crucial EFL meeting will take place this week, with the League Two campaign already curtailed and League One hanging by a thread.
