Neil Warnock's stance on Middlesbrough and Hearts links revealed as ex-Cardiff City boss ponders future

Former Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock is not interested in a swift return to management after being linked with both Hearts and Middlesbrough jobs, WalesOnline has learned.

Warnock left the Welsh capital club last month after a hugely-successful three-year stint as manager, which saw him take the Bluebirds from the depths of the Championship to the heady heights of the Premier League in 18 months.

Following his departure, Warnock was immediately linked with the vacant Hearts job, having previously spoken about his desire to knock Rangers and Celtic off their perch.

The manager's house in Dunoon, 80 miles west of Edinburgh, was also used to substantiate his links to the job.

Now, The Sun report that Middlesbrough are set to move quickly to appoint Warnock, with current boss Jonathan Woodgate edging closer to his dismissal following a poor run of form.

However, WalesOnline understands that those links are wide of the mark at present, with Warnock, who yesterday turned 71, wanting to wait until at least after Christmas before making any big decision over his next move.

The former Bluebirds boss will remain in South Wales until the New Year and it is understood neither Hearts nor Middlesbrough have sounded him out over a move up north as yet.

It is understood, however, that Warnock has not completely ruled out a return to management in the near future.

The former Bluebirds boss, however, is not keen to rush into anything, having only just completed the terms of his exit deal with Cardiff.
