Neil Warnock reveals why he's staying at Cardiff City and his 'responsibility' and duty to Bluebirds fans

Neil Warnock says he is humbled by the huge backing given by Cardiff City fans and feels 'a responsibility' to help take them into the Premier League again.

The Bluebirds manager has put an end to speculation about his future by agreeing to carry on as boss for next season.

And he cites the incredible support from Cardiff's fans as one of the reasons.

Warnock held two days of London talks with Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman and chief executive Ken Choo to thrash out plans for the Championship, which includes a transfer budget for six new signings this summer.

Warnock went into the discussions with the fans having sung his name in unison during the Crystal Palace defeat which consigned Cardiff to relegation, followed by chants of 'We want you to stay' at the end of Sunday's stunning 2-0 triumph at Manchester United.

"Not in a million years have I seen or heard anything like this, certainly not for a team that's just been relegated," said Warnock.

"It's been utterly amazing and if I'm honest I feel a responsibility to the fans in return.

"Because of their loyalty to me, I feel I've kind of got a duty to put them back where they just were in the Premier League before I call it a day here.

Cardiff City fans' passionate message to Neil Warnock at Manchester United

"It's been quite humbling to hear them sing my name like that in those circumstances. I don't like to use the word embarrassed, humbled is a much better one. That sort of thing doesn't normally happen to the manager of a team that's gone down.

"There wasn't really a doubt in my mind I would be staying and the support from the fans has played a massive part in that.

"I guess they know where we've come from a couple of years back and the difficult obstacles we've had to try to overcome in the Premier League this season.

"But they've been the one constant throughout. Their support has been incredible the whole season and I kind of feel a duty to give them something back by trying to win promotion again next season.

"They and I know it won't be easy. Stoke City have a bigger wage bill than ourselves, yet they didn't get anywhere near this season. Swansea have had issues, so it's only West Brom of the relegated teams that pushed for promotion. It's not easy to come straight back up.

"But our players, and supporters, will be ready for it next season. I spoke to the team before the Man Utd game and you could see during it they're up for any challenge ahead. No disrespect to Fulham and Huddersfield, but I'm not sure they'll be as ready for the challenge of the Championship as we are.

"We will give it a good old go."

Neil Warnock to remain Cardiff City manager as Vincent Tan sanctions up to six new signings

Warnock needs an entire new midfield, having lost Aron Gunnarsson, Harry Arter and Victor Camarasa. He will also target a right-back, striker, winger and possibly a centre-back.

Some will be first-teamers, others utility players who will have a key role to play during the Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday 46-game slog of the Championship.

Cardiff owner Vincent Tan has freed up the funds for a swoop into the summer transfer market, Warnock saying: "Mehmet spoke to Vincent and said he's in a positive mood. I need to ring him myself to thank him for his support.

The three transfer signings that can make Cardiff City Championship contenders

"The talks we had in London were positive, but also needed. I know more than anybody how difficult a league the Championship is, but we're in good fettle and we're going to have a right old crack at it again."
