Neil Warnock reveals what Man City star Kevin De Bruyne told him at full time

Kevin De Bruyne joked with Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock that his opening goal for Manchester City was a cross and not a shot.

The Belgian opened the scoring for City after just six minutes at The Etihad when he drove his shot into the roof of the net from a very tight angle past Cardiff goalkeeper Neil Etheridge.

Etheridge and Warnock approached De Bruyne at full time and the television cameras picked up on them having a joke as they walked off the pitch and the Cardiff boss revealed what they had been speaking about in his post match press conference.

"The first goal, I think Neil the goalkeeper will be disappointed in that," Warnock said.

"When I went on the pitch after he had a great second half, pulled off some great saves, I said 'it's a pity about the goal, son' and he said 'gaffer he didn't mean it, De Bruyne!'

"Kevin was just going off the pitch so I shouted to Kevin and said 'tell me the truth, he said you didn't mean it' and he went 'I didn't'.

"He meant to cross it but the power of the cross was too much. It's a good lesson for (Neil) because you can't anticipate as a goalkeeper, but that was good of Kevin really."

Etheridge had joked with De Bruyne that his honest had saved him a fine.

De Bruyne was awarded the man of the match award after an impressive display in City's midfield and Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the 27-year-old.

"Yeah that’s true everyone was in high level," Guardiola said. "Of course Kevin we missed him (when he was injured), the results don’t say that, but he is an important player for us and the first 15 to 20 minutes especially he was making incredible moments."
