Neil Warnock makes Steve Bruce joke after being asked about COVID 'circuit breaker'

Neil Warnock has joked that Newcastle fans could not stand a football circuit breaker as it would prevent them from "shouting at Steve Bruce".

The Middlesbrough boss was in fine form as he pushed back against talk of a break in the season after rising numbers of COVID cases. The League One programme has been hit by multiple cancellations while Newcastle themselves had 18 cases and were forced to cancel the Aston Villa game last year.

Warnock says a "circuit breaker" would be hard on fans, especially in the North East.

"I don't think it would help at all, me," he said.

"Personally - especially up here in the North East where we are - you need your football. You need to be able to shout at Steve Bruce, don't you, if you're a Newcastle fan.

"You need to have a go at the owners at the Sunderland or have a go at Middlesbrough.

"What else have you got to talk about? You've got to look at it like that. It gives you an outlet.

"I don't think we want that taking us away from us. It's a great game and it is one thing where you can take out your frustrations at home.

"When you look at the way we are at the minute, the lads can't change at the ground, they can't shower at the ground, they can't eat at the ground. It's worrying for people to think this is what we've got to do."
