Neil Warnock invites Sol Bamba to Middlesbrough as he confirms ex-Cardiff City star has moved back to Leeds

Neil Warnock has offered Sol Bamba the chance to train with Middlesbrough following his release from Cardiff City.

The 36-year-old came on for the final few seconds of Cardiff's final game of the season against Rotherham United, having recovered from non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of cancer.

It turned out to be his final appearance in a City shirt, five years after Warnock had brought him to the Welsh capital as a free agent.

Bamba left the club a legend, not only for what he did in helping the club achieve promotion, but for his exploits off the pitch, too.

Supporters were understandably disappointed to see the Ivorian leave, however the defender, who has moved back up north to Leeds where he once played, was insistent on playing again.

And while Warnock has not offered Bamba a playing contract, he has said he will welcome him to the club's Rockliffe training ground as the player looks to get back to full fitness.

“Sol telephoned me to say he’d moved back to Leeds since his release from Cardiff and asked if I'd help him,” said Warnock.

“I’ve known him years, he’s a good lad, and after everything he’s been through this is the least I can do. We wish him well.

“No doubt he’ll get as fit as he can with a week or so under his belt with us.”

Bamba played 118 times for Cardiff City before his release this summer.
