Neil Warnock hits back at Chris Sutton after pre-season Cardiff City prediction

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has made a sly dig at pundit Chris Sutton, who gave the Bluebirds no chance of retaining their Premier League status at the start of the season.

Warnock’s side face a stern test ahead in the remaining weeks of the season to rise out of the relegation zone but have a huge opportunity this weekend against a Fulham side already set for Championship football next season.

Three points behind Brighton with three games remaining, Cardiff remain in the fight and that is much better than Sutton predicted at the beginning of the campaign - and Warnock took the opportunity to bite back at the former Blackburn Rovers man.

“Have you got a message for our friend Chris Sutton? Who wrote you off before a ball was kicked! I just want you to stay up so you can hammer him, that clown!” BBC Radio 5 Live’s Robbie Savage said.

Cardiff City star jokingly 'banned from training ground' by Neil Warnock as another receives devastating news

“I know, I know. At least we've nearly got three times the amount of points he said we'd get! We're onto 31 at the minute, I think he said 11 points would be our best target, but hey you've got to make a living saying something haven't you!” Warnock replied.

Sutton has identified himself as a regular enemy for Cardiff this season with a number of strong comments, including questioning whether Welsh sides should be allowed to play in the Premier League.

His prediction of 11 points would have seen Cardiff equal the record for the lowest points tally in a 38-game Premier League season, a tally held by the Derby County side of 2008-09.

Speaking about Sutton's prediction ahead of his side's clash with Fulham, Warnock added: "When he said we wouldn't get 11 points, I thought we’d struggle to get it looking at the fixtures."
