Neil Warnock criticised by pundits for his Leeds United 'soft belly' comments

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock was wrong to accuse Leeds United of having a ‘soft belly’, after stating Marcelo Bielsa’s side would not earn promotion to the Premier League.

That is the view of former Wolves captain Keith Andrews, who defended the Peacocks from that criticism and praised the resilience that Leeds have shown this season in their push to clinch a return to the top-flight.

Warnock’s comments came after Leeds’ defeat to Sheffield United prior to the international break, which left Leeds one point off the automatic promotion spots with eight games to play but, crucially, their fate is now out of their hands as they need the sides above them to slip.

According to Warnock, Leeds will fall short due to the fact they have crumbled at key stages this season but Andrews dismissed that claim, identifying the fine work Bielsa’s side have done in tough matches this term.

“I’m not having that. I think it’s well known I thought they’d get to a stage where they wouldn’t be able to sustain it but that’s not something you can level at Leeds,” he told Sky Sports.

“The amount of times they have come back in games when they’ve gone to tough environments, they’ve stood up to that and it’s not a case of a soft underbelly at all.”
