Neil Redfearn absent from Newcastle's reserve team's defeat at Aston Villa - just months after taking new role

Neil Redfearn is believed to have sat out of Newcastle United Under-23 side's 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa.

It is expected his exit will be confirmed in due course, but the process has not been fully processed by the club at this stage.

Toon sources have indicated that the former Premier League player was not present at Villa Park, just months into a new role with the Magpies.

United are yet to comment on national newspaper reports on a disagreement with Newcastle colleague Liam Bramley.

Redfearn has previously been in charge of first team affairs during the club's pre-season tour of China along with Ben Dawson during the club's quest to appoint Steve Bruce after Rafa Benitez's departure.

Redfearn was named in a new-look coaching set-up last summer with Dawson appointed into a more technical role.

Dawson's new role was set to be more of a director of football position but he has been spotted in the dugout on occasions this season.

The situation will be laid bare next Tuesday when the Magpies face their final EFL Trophy game of the season at Port Vale.

A coaching representative will be expected to conduct Press duties, with games in the competition attracting extra media attention than the average reserve game.
