Neil Lennon talks Celtic's 3-5-2 formation, why it works and the bits they still need to improve

Neil Lennon has explained why he favours the 3-5-2 formation, while outlining the areas of it they still need to work on.

The Celtic boss was happy with the attacking threat shown by his team in the 3-2 home victory against Livingston.

However he admitted there were a few creases which need to be ironed out defensively as he makes tweaks to the system, and his players get used to the way of working.

Lennon told BBC Scotland: "It's something I will look at and analyse. We thought the 4-3-3 had got a bit tired.

"When we play with a three [in defence] it can shuffle into a 4-4-2 when we're out of possession.

"We've been strong on 3-5-2 for a long time and we're potent. I think there are just a few creases we need to iron out defensively. Going forward there should be an improvement on that."

Lennon was unhappy with the decision to award Livingston an early spot-kick in the match, but was pleased with the reaction of his players to the set-back.

Kris Ajer was penalised for handball in the box, but the Celtic boss wasn't so sure.

He added: "I'm not happy about both of the decisions. I thought we could've had a penalty quite easily, and then it's debatable whether Livingston's is a penalty.

"But we reacted brilliantly. We scored two brilliant goals, and then the third goal, you're thinking at 3-1 were comfortable in the game. In control.

"And then we concede a poor goal from our point of view. Too easy. Good strike from Serrano but poor from our point of view."

The win moves Celtic to the top of the table on goals scored.
