Neil Lennon slams 'unsavoury' Leigh Griffiths abuse as Celtic boss issues firm defence

Neil Lennon has slammed Kilmarnock fans for the 'unsavoury' abuse shown towards Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths .

The forward appeared to throw an object at a Killie fan as he was subbed off after he inspired his side to a 3-1 win at Rugby Park.

But the Parkhead boss says the abuse he received from the Ayrshire faithful was out of order and his striker didn't react in a vicious way.

He told Sky Sports: "It's totally uncalled for, I think his behaviour on the pitch was exemplary.

"We all get abuse at times and he didn't react in a vicious way at all.

"But some of the abuse he was taking was quite unsavoury."

The Northern Irishman was delighted with the performance on the pitch as Celtic maintained their lead at the top of the table.

And Lennon was over the moon with goalscorers Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard and their effective link up play.

He added: "I'm estatic. I thought it was a great performance with great goals on the pitch as well.

"I thought the attitude was spot on and we thoroughly deserved the three points.

"There were two good goals from them and their link up play was outstanding. The two were absolutely excllent.

"Griffiths has goals in him and he's looking fitter and stronger. I thought his hold up play was pretty good and Edouard was special, he can play anywhere.

"That's two goals in two games and his set piece delivery was great at times. I brought him here four or five years ago and I'm a big fan of his. He's had a difficult time but I hope he's come out the other side of it."
