Neil Lennon slams 'disgusting' Celtic mole as he defends Rangers defeat

Neil Lennon has slammed the 'disgusting' Celtic mole after their team news was leaked prior to their 2-0 defeat to Rangers.

The Hoops teamsheet was circulating online this morning before kick-off as it revealed Stephen Welsh and Patryk Klimala were starting for the home side.

It was a disappointing day at the office for Celtic as they failed to record a shot on target. Connor Goldson's double secured a well deserved win for Steven Gerrard's men.

Asked if the line-up being leaked made a difference to the result, Lennon told BBC Sportsound: "I don't know, it doesn't help. Somebody within the club is doing us in basically and that's disgusting I think. We'll try (to get to the bottom of it) and work at it. It makes my job a lot harder.

"I keep talking about a sense of privacy around the club but that doesn't seem to be the case with some people. It's very disappointing.

"We can't afford to dwell on it and I hope players will get fitter, sharper and we get players back from illness and start looking better. I always felt like today was going to be an uphill task."

Lennon defended the poor performance and highlighted the omission of Ryan Christie and Odsonne Edouard as having a huge impact on the result.

He added: "It looked like what we were. A team put together a day before the game. We have given away two poor goals. I thought Rangers defended their box really well, better than we did.

"We should have done better for the second goal, disappointing to concede from a set play. Moi has missed a great chance and then we are 2-0 down and chasing the game.

"We have players who aren't fit. There are players who have came on and didn't have the impact we would have liked.

"There was no atmosphere either. I thought first half we were ok, but second half we didn't lack any sort of penetration or work the goalkeeper enough.

"The first goal, we've dropped too early. It's a free header and that shouldn't happen. We have to take chances when they come. We've flashed two great chances across the goal and Moi has missed a one on one. So we score that and we are still in the game. The second goal is poor from our point of view, the second phase from a corner and we should gave dealt with that better.

"But we didn't really look like scoring in the second half, that's something we'll have to look at.

"Listen, you look at the players who are missing. Forrest, Edouard and Griffiths not fully fit so you have three main strikers not available to start the game. We accepted that and we still created decent chances, particularly first half.

"People can make it out whatever they want it to be, but to me it's a defeat. We have a game in hand so we have to maximise that, stay in touch and get players fitter and sharper. It's been disruptive with covid and a lot of players away on international duty and I am not sure some of them are on the ball, mentally."
