Neil Lennon shuts down 'awful' Celtic question as he's taken aback by failure puzzler

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has slammed suggestions his team failing to win an unprecedented quadruple Treble this season could be deemed a faiure.

The Irishman was delighted as he watched his side battle past St Johnstone on Sunday to set up a Scottish Cup semi-final showdown with Aberdeen.

The 48-year-old returned to the Parkhead hotseat 12 months ago and has added three more trophies to the seven former boss Brendan Rodgers earned during his two-and-a-half-year stay in Glasgow.

Celtic have won every domestic trophy since 2016 and Lennon is keen to add the Premiership title with his side 12 points clear of Rangers.

But the Hoops boss was straight on the defence when asked by a member of the broadcast media if his side could be considered failures if they don't deliver a fourth successive clean sweep.

Lennon, speaking ahead of Wednesday's clash with Livingston, said: "That's an awful question.

"I don't know who would deem that a failure. My remit is to carry on the good work that was left behind by Brendan (Rodgers) and so far, so good.

"So, if some people deem it a failure if we don't succeed in that aspect then I accept that but it's a strange question."

And Lennon is under no illusion about how difficult it will be for his side at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Wednesday.

Gary Holt's side won 2-0 on home turf earlier in the season and Lennon wants his team to be ready for the battle.

He added: "We're under no illusions how difficult the game is going to be, it'll be a very tough game and not for the faint hearted.

"They're a big strong team and their home form is excellent.

"I want (Celtic) to keep being exceptional - I think they can get better as a group and I don't want them to rest on their laurels."
