Neil Lennon's non Celtic career highlight as former Parkhead manager reflects on 'happiest time'

Celtic legend Neil Lennon insists the happiest period of his career came at Leicester City despite three trophy-laden spells at Parkhead.

Lennon spent seven years as a player in Glasgow's east end following his move from Fibert Street in 2000.

And he'd later go on to take charge of the Hoops in two separate spells as boss, the latter coming to an end in February.

Yet despite winning 11 trophies at the club on the park followed by another 10 in the dugout, he maintained ahead of the Foxes' FA Cup triumph over Chelsea that the time he spent in the Midlands was the period he was most content in his career.

Leicester scooped promotion in the play-off final back in 1996 and that was followed by two League Cups against Middlesbrough and Tranmere Rovers, while a third final against Spurs proved too tall an order in between.

Speaking ahead of another former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers ' big day at Wembley, Lennon told BBC Five Live of his time at Leicester: "When we were there in the 90s, it was probably the happiest time in my career.

"(I was in my) mid-20s, we had the Championship play-off final which was brilliant, and then three League Cup finals. It was magic. A one city club, everybody following us."

Youri Tielemans' second half strike was enough to deliver the FA Cup for Leicester in front of a crowd of 22,000.

And on the eve of the match Lennon said: "They'll be glued to the TV sets and those lucky enough to be there will be roaring them on.

"I've not been down there and around it, the environment, but it's such a shame they haven't had the build-up, the anticipation, the excitement.

"It's their first FA Cup final since 1969. It's a great achievement and some of these players have already won the Premier League, they'll want to add the FA Cup to their trophy cabinet.

"Brendan will be desperate to win a major trophy in England. He's been such a top manager for such a long time, it's probably the only thing missing from his CV really."
