Neil Lennon's fuming Celtic interview gave Kenny MacIntyre 'no pleasure' as BBC presenter insists boss should be 'looked after better'

Reporter Kenny MacIntyre insists Neil Lennon must be "looked after better" after the Celtic manager walked out of a frosty pre-match interview with the BBC.

The fed-up boss gave questions over his infamous press conference the short shrift ahead of the 2-2 draw with Livingston last week.

As MacIntyre continued to press, Lennon walked out of the interview before returned to speak post-match after another disappointing display.

However, reflecting on the fiery encounters on BBC Sportsound, he insisted he respecting Lennon for fronting up to the line of question after the game.

He also pointed the finger at the Celtic hierarchy for adding to the pressure with a no news on the January review of the managers position.

MacIntyre said: "I've interviewed Neil Lennon pre-match a couple of times prior to last Wednesday, I think it was before St Mirren and Dundee United. They won both these games and it was a standard three or four minute interview.

"Last Wednesday when I had to interview him, given what had happened on the Monday, I felt I had no choice but to ask him; because there was so many subjects that he had touched on, and post his interview we had the deputy First Minister commenting, we had St Johnstone we had Hamilton Accies. So I felt like I had to go into a lot of areas.

"I took no pleasure in doing that. Post-match, that was another disappointing result, we waited a long time for the post-match interview, and the easiest thing in the world would have been to say to John Kennedy to go out and do the interview.

"I have to say he showed real class post-match, he answered questions, he knew what was coming. It was another disappointing result, he knew he would be asked about his future. I thought he spoke brilliantly post-match, and I actually think he has been put in an incredible difficult position."

He went on: "I think the thing is here, Eddie Howe, out of work, favourite for the Celtic job.

"Rafa Benitez leaves his position, he's the favourite, Frank Lampard sacked, he's the favoruite.

"The reason we keep asking these questions is because the review was announced by the club last month.

"We were told we hear something in January, and I think that means you have to ask the question. I think he could have perhaps been looked after a bit better."
