Neil Lennon's Celtic press conference comments 'appalling' as John Swinney hits back

Neil Lennon’s comments directed at the Scottish Government were “appalling” according to Deputy First Minister John Swinney.

The Celtic boss went on an incredible rant where he rounde don the club’s critics after their controversial winter training camp to Dubai.

13 players and three staff members were forced to self isolate after defender Christopher Jullien tested positive on his return.

A further unnamed player also tested positive after beginning their period of self isolation.

But Lennon believes the protocols that required so many people to isolate are “ludicrous” and claimed it was a political move rather than a measure put in place to protect public health.

He also accused certain Scottish Government officials of “rampant hypocricy” after they criticised the Scottish Premiership champions’ decision to make the trip in the first place.

And Mr Swinney has been left gobsmacked after Lennon’s tirade.

"I'm at a loss for words," he told Good Morning Scotland.

"I said a few weeks ago I thought it was a really bad idea that Celtic decided to go to Dubai for this trip. I didn't think it was a particularly great signal.

"I have no ill will to Neil Lennon whatsoever, but I think his comments in this respect have been absolutely appalling."
