Neil Lennon's 'calamitous' Celtic run isn't good enough as under-fire boss earns Tony Mowbray final days comparison

Under-fire Neil Lennon 's current run at Celtic has been compared to Tony Mowbray's disastrous tenure as Mark Wilson admits the axe could fall at any time.

Mowbray was shown the door after winning 17 of the 30 league games and struggling for form in Europe, with a 4-0 horror show against St Mirren the final straw for the Parkhead board.

When the axe finally fell on Mowbray's ill-fated spell, with Lennon stepping up to take the top job, they were 10 points behind top of the table Rangers.

Now, the under-fire boss has lead the Hoops to just eight wins in 22 games and sit 20 points behind their Glasgow rivals, albeit having played two games less than Steven Gerrard 's men.

Former Celtic Park defender Wilson believes change could happen pretty quickly, but doesn't believe Lennon will throw in the towel.

He told Sky Sports : "I think a lot of people are calling for Neil to resign but knowing Neil the way I do, he’s a fantastic leader, he’s a fighter and a scrapper.

"He won’t quit, but I do think there is a duty of the club from the people above him.

"When you look at the results recently, and you look back to 22 games and seven wins, or eight if you include the Scottish Cup Final, on penalties, for any Celtic managers that’s a tough run of results to survive.

"I think even Neil will know himself that historically that hasn’t been good enough to keep other Celtic managers.

"I was here under Tony Mowbray, I played a part in that, and I know the axe falls pretty quickly.

"When you factor in the run of results to the other calamitous things that have happened this season, you can understand why fans are calling for change now.
