Neil Lennon reveals Celtic injury woes as he admits changes are needed

Neil Lennon admits he’ll need his back-up squad to get over the title finishing line.

The Parkhead manager saw his troops get the job done against Rangers to move 13 points clear at the summit, but at a cost.

Lennon was able to recall the likes of Olivier Ntcham and Tom Rogic for the showdown after the pair had missed three months each due to injuries.

But, with Dedryck Boyata limping out in the latter stages of the victory and Kieran Tierney also fighting against a long-term knock, the boss says he’ll need more resources to get involved for the final push.

Emilio Izaguirre, Jozo Simunovic, Filip Benkovic and Ryan Christie are all set to return over the next couple of weeks and Lennon reckons it’ll be all hands on deck as the Hoops aim for a Treble Treble with the likes of Timo Weah and Oliver Burke also champing at the bit for starts.

Celtic face St Mirren on Wednesday and he said: “We will have to maybe freshen things up a little bit.

“It looks that way yeah. Obviously, we will look to Izaguirre, Simunovic and Benkovic is nearly fit as well. It’s not bad strength in depth and you have the likes of Weah and Burke who will be fresh as well.

“I think it’s important to get Ntcham and Callum [McGregor], that’s a good triumvirate there with Broony.

“A strong midfield, good balance and it looked that way for as long as Oli was on the pitch really.

“Then you had Tom to come on, but we had to change things very quickly with Dedryck going off we had to drop Tom back in an unaccustomed role.

“The game had a bit of everything, 10 v 10, goals, spills, action, just your normal Glasgow derby, really.

“I was just trying to win the game by hook or by crook. We capitalised on a mistake, great ball from Callum, great work from Odsonne and a great finish. That’s the 85th minute, so even though they’re tired they keep their concentration levels high.

“Two weeks ago we went to Dundee and had to wait until the 96th minute to win the game, so we can’t take anything for granted in that aspect.

“Maybe if we do freshen things up, we will have players itching to play. It’s something myself, John [Kennedy] and Damien [Duff] will look at. I have to give my staff a huge amount of credit as well.”
