Neil Lennon responds to Steven Gerrard's SFA blast as Celtic boss insists he has no issues with Scotland set-up

Neil Lennon has responded to Steven Gerrard's claims Scotland coaching staff had been "careless" with Ryan Jack .

The Rangers boss was seething as he slammed the SFA after the Ibrox midfielder returned back crocked despite not kicking a ball for Scotland.

Lennon had three of his Celtic players in the same situation but Ryan Christie, James Forrest and Callum McGregor all featured for Scotland in the double header against Russia and Belgium and came back unscathed.

Gerrard was unable to hide his disappointment and anger over the issue, after the 27-year-old aggravated a knee injury during a double training session just two days after their game against Celtic.

The Ibrox boss detailed how the former Aberdeen player was asked to do an 11k run which saw his knee injury flare up.

But Lennon said of his international stars: "They have come back no problem, no injuries.

"They had the game, they were straight to the hotel, maybe a recovery day and then into the training.

"Maybe Steven has an issue with that because of Ryan's injury but thankfully we are injury-free from that.

"It's part and parcel with being an international player, you can get injured here, you can get injured in training with us or training or playing for the international team.

"And yes of course, during the international break you're always on the phone waiting for your physio to call you with hopefully good news rather than bad."

However, Lennon does have several players sidelined for the trip to Hamilton on Saturday, with Nir Bitton, Jozo Simunovic and Mikey Johnston all out of the tie.

The Hoops boss added: "The only absentees we have is Nir who is out for three weeks with a hamstring injury. Mikey with a groin injury and Jozo with an ongoing knee problem but he’s seeing a specialist today."
