Neil Lennon reacts to Scott Brown Celtic flashpoint as boss delivers strong verdict on skipper

Neil Lennon brushed off suggestion Celtic captain Scott Brown could have picked up a second red card in two appearances in the win over Kilmarnock.

The midfielder set Lennon's side on their way to a 4-0 victory at Rugby Park but was involved in a brief clash with Aaron Tshibola in the first-half.

Brown was shown a straight red just minutes after entering the fray during his last outing against Livingston after swinging an arm at Jaze Kabia.

But Lennon is adamant his skipper was rightly in the clear this time.

His comments came just moments before league leaders Rangers hammered their call for "consistency" in disciplinary decisions with a cryptic Tweet after Alfredo Morelos was served a three-game ban for stamping on Ryan Porteous.

Asked on Sky Sports if Brown could've been in bother, Lennon said: "I didn't think there was anything in it.

"Whereas, at Livingston two weeks ago, it looked a little bit more deliberate.

"But I don't think there was anything in that tonight at all.

"He had a very good game, he looked fresh and played very, very well.

"He looked, again, the player we know he can be."

Brown opened the scoring in Ayrshire with a well-taken header before an Odsonne Edouard double - one from the penalty spot - helped the champions get on their way to a much needed victory.

Albian Ajeti rounded off a 4-0 Celtic victory and Lennon was pleased to see his side react to his demand for a reaction after defeat to St Mirren at the weekend.

But the Irishman insists he won't be looking too far ahead.

He added: "I'm not setting any targets.

"Tonight was about playing well and winning and we've done that."
