Neil Lennon purrs over 'relentless' Celtic and provides Hatem Abd Elhamed and Tom Rogic injury updates

Neil Lennon hailed a "relentless" Celtic display as the Premiership champions began their quest for nine-in-a-row by dismantling St Johnstone.

Ryan Christie bagged his first-ever league hat-trick in an emphatic 7-0 win on flag day at Parkhead.

Mikey Johnston, Olivier Ntcham, Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths also found the net in a performance that left the Hoops boss purring.

He insists his side have laid down an early marker and hailed a stunning display from Christie, who has bagged six goals already this term.

"It was an all-round great performance from start to finish," Lennon told BBC Scotland.

"To beat a team the quality of St Johnstone, seven goals - I'm so thrilled with the performance and the backing of the supporters today.

"It was a great day. We're not getting carried away but it was an outstanding team performance.

"Ryan is playing exceptionally well at the minute, his first and third goals were sublime finishes.

"We're hoping we'll see more of that as the season progresses with all the attributes he has.

"The substitutes who came on made a great contribution - Ntcham, Griffiths, I thought his goal was magnificent, quick turn, touch and no backlift. Only he can score those kinds of goals.

"There was great attacking play, our reaction to losing the ball was also fantastic. We kept a clean sheet as well, so all in all I couldn't have asked any more.

"They've given me everything in terms of the fitness levels and quality on the ball."

The only blight on an otherwise perfect afternoon was debutant right-back Hatem Abd Elhamed limping off with a dead leg shortly after the interval.

The Israeli, a July arrival from Hapoel Beer Sheva, impressed down the right as Celtic wrapped up the points with three goals before the interval.

But he's now an injury doubt for Wednesday's Champions League clash against Cluj in Romania, although Lennon remains hopeful he'll be able shake off the knock.

The Celtic boss also provided an update on Tom Rogic, who has missed pre-season to recover from an ankle operation.

Lennon said: "It's a dead leg. We thought he could've gone another 10 or 15 minutes.

We're hoping (Elhamed) will be fit for Wednesday because I thought he was outstanding - the two full-backs gave us so much more width, power and pace.

"(Rogic) had a steroid injection during the week. He had surgery on a ligament ankle injury from the cup final.

"So he's letting things settle from the injection and is back working hard with the physios.

"Hopefully he'll be on the grass next week."

"I don't know how big an impact that will have on the game on Wednesday night but I'm just pleased with the relentlessness of the performance, the will and the want to score goals.
