Neil Lennon 'privileged' to manage Celtic as he all but confirms permanent job

Neil Lennon appeared to confirm he has accepted the offer of becoming Celtic's manager on a permanent basis.

The Hoops announced they had offered the Northern Irishman the post following Saturday's 2-1 Scottish Cup win over Hearts .

It saw Celtic clinch a historic treble Treble.

The club said on Twitter: "We are delighted to announce that Neil Lennon has been offered the job as permanent #CelticFC manager and the details will be confirmed in the coming days."

Celtic came from behind to win the Scottish Cup, with Odsonne Edouard scoring twice to seal the 2-1 victory.

After the game, Lennon told BBC Scotland: "I'm emotional. You will never see this again.

"We will discuss things over the next few days.

"I'm just taking it over the line and there's a lot of emotion here so it's a bit too early to start talking about that yet. It's too early. it's not about me."

Lennon appeared to all but confirm he had accepted the offer.

Speaking to Celtic TV, he said: "It's a privilege.

“It's been my privilege to manage the club once but to do it a second time I feel I've come full circle.

"It was always an objective. I left the club on good terms the last time and nothing's changed.

"It's been a rollercoaster couple of months, difficult, but I hope to bring a lot more success to the club going forward."

Looking to the future, Lennon added: “It's already begun really.

“There's going to be changes of personnel obviously but I don't want to change too much because it's been a really good transition between myself and Brendan.

“I’ve got to pay tribute to him and pay tribute to Ronny [Deila] - they’ve done fantastic things for the club as well.”

Lennon stepped in on an interim basis back in February following the departure of Brendan Rodgers to Leicester.

He helped Celtic lift their eighth successive Scottish Premiership title and then lift the Scottish Cup.

Now the 47-year-old is being rewarded for the job he has done.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawell said: "Neil stepped up to the plate when we needed him. He’s a true Celtic man who knows the club and the city.

"He’s a winner with a fantastic eye for a player. I’m delighted to announce he’s been offered the job."
