Neil Lennon makes Craig Gordon Scotland claim as Celtic manager lifts the lid on January exit talks

Neil Lennon reckons Craig Gordon should still be No.1 for Scotland even if he’s not playing for Celtic.

The 37-year-old keeper was desperate to get out of his deal with the Hoops and play in the second half of the season, seeing
a serious chance to help Scotland reach the Euros.

But he was denied a January move by the Hoops, who need him as back-up to Fraser Forster with Scott Bain not 100 per cent fit.

Lennon said: “Craig Gordon is certainly good enough to be in the Scotland squad.

“Even if he’s not playing for us every week, that would be my opinion. I see him every day, he’s an outstanding trainer and outstanding
professional. Whether he’s playing regularly or not, he’s still more than good enough to be in the squad.

“It was an awkward decision for us – from the club’s point of view we don’t want to let him go but from a human side I can totally understand where he’s coming from at the minute.

“The club’s stance is we want him here.

“It’s hard for a keeper, it’s an individual position, I understand where he’s coming from. But he’s training great and he looks great, though Fraser is our No.1.”
