Neil Lennon lifts lid on Celtic's daily coronavirus briefings as he vows to protect stars

Neil Lennon insists his Celtic stars' safety is paramount as he revealed the club's daily coronavirus briefings.

A joint SPFL and SFA taskforce has drawn up contingency plans should the outbreak worsen in the coming days and weeks.

There is currently no immediate intention to cancel fixtures and claims the club's charge to nine-in-a-row could be scuppered by the season being declared null and void are wide of the mark.

Matches may be played behind closed doors in a worst case scenario while it's also been reported the SPFL could even declare Celtic champions.

Lennon's focus, however, is on protecting his squad and insists he's simply following club guidance on the matter.

He said: "We have briefings every morning. We have to protect the players as much as we can.

"We want to play the games in front of full houses. The club will guide me on how to guide the players and my staff."

Celtic host St Mirren at Parkhead on Saturday with the chance to further extend their 13 point lead over Rangers, who visit Ross County the following day.

The reigning champions edged ever-closer to a ninth straight domestic crown in midweek despite a 2-2 with Livingston.

Lennon was delighted with his side's efforts in West Lothian and expects Saints to be a similarly tough nut to crack.

He added: “We’ve been playing superbly. Even on Wednesday the level of the performance was very high.

“Jim Goodwin has improved them (St Mirren). Going 4-4-2. We’re at home. I expect them to be difficult to break down. I want a front foot performance.”
