Neil Lennon labelled Celtic 'stunt double' but Rangers hero fights rival's corner

Former Celtic player Paul Slane admits he was left shocked by former manager Neil Lennon during Saturday's sterile 2-0 defeat to Rangers.

The former Hoops academy star worked with the Irishman and reckons the lack of urgency from the touchline should be a concern.

Slane has recalled a host of stories in recent years where the Irishman didn't hold back and he is calling for that kind of reaction to return.

Speaking to Open Goal, he said: "Seriously, I need the real Neil Lennon to turn up.

"That is not Neil Lennon. I honestly believe the man standing on that touchline is a stunt double. I really do.

"Even on 70 minutes, Celtic are passing the ball side to side and he's not saying anything.

"I remember in training if I passed the ball backwards he would be screaming the head off me.

"The way they played it was like testimonial, I thought John Higgins and Martin Compston should have come on, that's how bad it was."

But Lennon had an unlikely ally in Barry Ferguson with the ex-Rangers captain refusing to get too far ahead after his side's routine win on enemy territory.

But the Kelty Hearts manager admits he was surprised with the lack of intensity on show from the Premiership champions.

He added: "Lennon's teams are always aggressive with the ball.

"But I think it's over the top with Lennon. It's only one game, only three points for Rangers.

"I think Rangers were the better team and I think their tactics were perfect."
