Neil Lennon issues 'honest' Celtic defence as he blasts 'out of order' Jim Goodwin

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has branded Jim Goodwin as 'out of order' and told him to focus on his own team after accusing Greg Taylor of diving.

The St Mirren manager was raging with the penalty awarded to the Hoops during last week's 4-0 win in Paisley when Taylor went down under a challenge from Ryan Flynn.

He called on divers to be 'named and shamed' and didn't hold back on his view that things needed to change when it comes to dealing with players who go down easily.

But that left Lennon incensed and he insists his Celtic players are 'honest' and believes both the incident with Taylor and the one with Albian Ajeti were clear cut.

He said: “He’s out of order – well out of order. Greg didn’t dive. It was quite clear he was pulled back and he was also clipped by Flynn at the top of his foot.

“The referee deemed it a penalty. I’m not having other managers accusing my players of diving when it’s clearly not true. Jim needs to rein it in a bit.

“We’ve looked at it again and there are two contacts, one on his arm, and one on his foot.”

It was the second week in a row where a Celtic penalty has gone under the microscope with Ajeti hit with a notice of complaint following a penalty against Kilmarnock.

And Lennon is confused as to why his players are being focused on as he insisted the Celtic Park club are 'honest' in how they go about their job.

He added: “Whenever we get a penalty these days there is a whole controversy about it but it is clear there was contact in the box. It was clear for Ajeti and it was clear for Taylor.

“Where, all of a sudden, this emergence of diving’s coming from, I don’t know.

“Greg’s one of the best pros you could work with. I’m not talking about one incidence, that takes away from a good performance.

“We won the game 4-0 and if I was Jim I would be concentrating on what happened to his team second half as opposed to accusing other players of cheating or diving.

“That’s totally out of order from him. We’re honest, we don’t deflect.”
