Neil Lennon issues Celtic transfer update as Hoops boss slaughters Ryan Christie decision

Neil Lennon has heaped praise on Scott Sinclair ahead of the winger's exit - then revealed Celtic would look to sign another winger.

The former Manchester City star is heading to Preston on a permanent deal after falling out of favour at the Hoops but Sinclair was incredible for the club during his first few seasons.

Signed by Brendan Rodgers, he was a big part of the treble Treble winning squad but has made just seven appearances this season.

But while he's set to head back down south, Lennon wants to bring in another option in his position. That's despite having the likes of Mo Elyounoussi, Mikey Johnston, James Forrest, Jonny Hayes, Lewis Morgan and Marian Shved for the wide positions.

Ukranian winger Shved has played just twice - totalling 35 minutes - since moving to Glasgow, grabbing a goal in the Champions League thumping of Nomme Kalju before a 15 minute cameo against Ross County in the league.

Daniel Arzani are another option that could be used as he returns from injury and the Aussie has been part of the training camp in Dubai.

But Lennon also warned supporters not to expect too many in the door during the winter window as he told Sky Sports: "He'll leave a huge legacy. He's had a tremendous time here. It's just a case of gametime being limited this season.

"He's a fantastic professional, fantastic to have around the place but ultimately he wants to play and we couldn't guarantee him that so he's looking at going to Preston.

"We don't too many going out of the squad, we want to add a bit of quality. We're maybe looking at a wide area as well, but we won't be seeing many I don't think."

Lennon also reiterated the club's stance about midfielder Ryan Christie's ban for grabbing Alfredo Morelos' testicles during the 2-1 defeat to Rangers in December.

Christie will miss three games in January after an extra match was added for an earlier red card this season.

And the Celtic gaffer thinks it's a ridiculous decision to ban him and insists there was no malice from the Scotland star.

He added: "Very unhappy with the Ryan Christie situation. Very unhappy. We think there’s a real inconsistency there. We think from a club point of view and from our point of view as a backroom staff that he’s been harshly treated.

"When you look at the other situations where players have gone unpunished, we think he’s been treated very harshly.

"We’ve been talking about this for a long time. You see one situation here and an identical one there, that was is being punished and that one is being not punished and I don’t understand - we don’t understand it. Even looking at the situation itself, it’s very passive. For that to be deemed violent conduct? We’re left scratching our heads over it. We’re very angry about it.

"VAR is causing a lot of headaches down in England, it’s going to cause plenty up here as well. In an issue like that, would it come down to a personal opinion or the letter of the law? We don’t know. From our point of view there is no aggression from Ryan there whatsoever."
