Neil Lennon is at Celtic until the end of the season and Peter Lawwell can't 'make the position any more clear'

Celtic boss Neil Lennon will be in the job until the end of the season and his position is clear claims Ian McCall.

The Partick Thistle boss jumped to the defence of the Hoops gaffer after a series of high-pressure interviews saw his position come into question.

With Peter Lawwell and the Celtic hierarchy set to carry out a review of the role this month, McCall can't see the chief executive releasing another statement or Celtic TV interview to clarify the role.

He told BBC Sportsound : "I listened to all the questions and it seems to be the done thing now, and I understand it, but every single question has a provocative element to it.

"There was nothing that was just a normal question for a manager. I thought he did pretty well not to react.

"I don't know how you can make the position any more clear, unless people want Peter Lawwell to come out and say something else.

"It seems to me that he is in the job until the end of the season."

When asked why Lawwell has not said that, he said: "He didn't look comfortable to me coming out and apologising on Celtic TV. I'm not sure he was comfortable doing that, so I'm not sure he would want to come back.

"He's already come out and said it. There are also things going on. I think the other week we said he had a meeting and they'd given him assurances until the end of the season, and now that isn't the case.

"So maybe some further clarity would help, it would certainly help the line of questioning."

Former Hearts boss Craig Levein also defended Lennon noting that no interviewer had to tell him the pressure he is under with as they trail Rangers by 23 points.

He added: "It is extreme, but it's made extreme because it's Celtic. A lot of other managers are in similar positions but they are not under such scrutiny.

"I agree with Ian with some of the questioning it's like shooting fish in a barrell.

"The guy is under pressure, everybody knows he's under pressure, and every question is poking him to try to get a reaction.

"He knows better than anyone where he is right now."
