Neil Lennon in vigorous Celtic defence as fan grilling draws blunt response to board shake-up calls

Celtic manager Neil Lennon admitted he finds calls to change the board at Parkhead baffling as he gave a blunt response to calls for a shake-up.

The Irishman's side lie 23 points behind Rangers in the Premiership, with the dream of 10 In A Row all-but dead.

While Lennon has come under his fair share of pressure, much of the ire has been directed at the Celtic board with calls for chief executive Peter Lawwell and others to go.

At his press conference on Tuesday the manager was asked by fan outlet 90 Minute Cynic if he could understand why supporters are calling for change.

After a significant pause Lennon replied bluntly: "No."

Having left that hanging for a few beats the Celtic boss began a defence of the running of the club.

Lennon pointed out: "We've won nine league titles in a row and four consecutive trebles which no club has ever done.

"So I don't understand why because we're having a difficult season there's this theory of change the board, change the club from top to bottom.

"That's not what I'm seeing and I think I know the club well enough.

"I'm not going to cut corners with what I'm saying, I understand that people now want a change of manager and a change of managerial staff but the way the club's been run over the past 20 years has been absolutely fantastic."
