Neil Lennon in Lionel Messi transfer quip as Celtic boss makes David Turnbull 'distraction' claim

Neil Lennon insists it doesn't matter if it's Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, he still wouldn't reveal Celtic's transfer plans.

The Hoops boss was quizzed on the club's pursuit of Motherwell star David Turnbull and Aaron Hickey at Tuesday's press conference.

Celtic are said to be on the verge of agreeing a move for Turnbull.

Reports also surfaced on Monday night that Celtic had a tabled an offer for Hearts rising star Hickey.

Lennon confirmed the Parkhead club were in talks with Turnbull, but wouldn't elaborate on how close they were to agreeing a deal for the youngster.

He also asked reporters to stop throwing names at him because even if it was Messi or Ronaldo, it's not the club's policy to comment on speculation, especially when his side are fully focused on their Champions League qualifier against Ferencvaros on Wednesday night.

Asked for an update on Turnbull, he said: "No idea. As far as I know there are talks, but I have no idea how close anything is to being confirmed.

"I've just been concentrating on Dundee United on Saturday and this game is so important, I can't have too many distractions elsewhere."

Asked about Hickey, he added: "It's the same as Ronaldo, it's the same as Messi.

"Stop throwing names at me, I'm just going to keep batting off the questions, it's not really our policy to be talking about speculation."
