Neil Lennon holds Celtic debrief with Dermot Desmond but under-fire boss insists there's nothing to see

Neil Lennon revealed he held a debrief with Dermot Desmond following Celtic's Europa League catastrophe.

But the manager insists that's nothing out of the ordinary.

Lennon 's side were thumped 4-1 by underdogs Sparta Prague at Celtic Park on Thursday to leave their knockout stage ambitions in tatters.

The under-fire boss checked in with Parkhead supremo Desmond but refused to disclose details of their chat.

Lennon said: “I’ve spoken to Dermot since Thursday but it was a private conversation.

“I speak to him twice a week so it was no different to any other week.”

Celtic face Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday aiming to claw back nine points on league leaders Rangers.

The reigning champions have two games in hand over their rivals and Lennon knows the heat is on to start producing results.

But, following a team meeting on Saturday, he senses a strong response is coming.

He said: “We had a meeting on Saturday and went through the game again, which is something I haven’t done for a long long time.

I wanted them to see it. We got a few points across that we wanted to make.

“We have to show a much better attitude and apply ourselves a lot better in games.

“Because the level of performance on Thursday was unacceptable.

“We went through the game and then at the end the players had their say too.

“They are clear now on what is required.

“I sensed I’ll get the response I’m looking for. I know what I’ve got in there.

“We’ve got to stay on point. We had a great season last year - and we have plateaued a bit.

“But there is more to come from this team and hopefully that will start on Sunday."
