Neil Lennon hails Celtic's historic run as he eyes quadruple treble glory

Neil Lennon has hailed Celtic for their historic run with his side on the verge of a quadruple treble.

Hearts stand in the way of the Parkhead side as they reached the Scottish Cup Final with a 2-0 win over Aberdeen at Hampden on Sunday.

The victory was the Hoops' 35th consecutive cup win and they have now reached eight finals in a row.

It's a remarkable achievement for the Premiership champions and Lennon has praised his players for their efforts, one game away from an unprecedented four trebles on the bounce.

Lennon said: "They are on the cusp of another treble, with is unheard of.

"I think it’s magnificent for the players and for the fans."

Celtic came firing out of the blocks as they cruised to a two-goal advantage thanks to strikes from Ryan Christie and Mohamed Elyounoussi.

Aberdeen came back into it after the break, but they couldn't find a way past Scott Bain to reduce the deficit.

Lennon insists his side are still getting up to speed after recent injuries and players who were ruled out through Covid-19.

And hee believes the intensity of their match midweek as they drew 2-2 draw with Lille caught up with them ever so slightly.

He added: "It was a really intense game Thursday night, high quality, high energy.

"We made a few changes today.

"One was enforced with Kris Ajer, but I thought Bitton came in and has been playing very well this season.

"He looked very comfortable and Odsonne (Edouard) getting 70 minutes will help him.

"Ryan (Christie) getting 70 minutes will help him after what he has been through.

"Slowly but surely we are getting more back and allied to that you have Griffiths and Ajeti and Ntcham.

"It’s just a question now of trying to keep the squad fresh and healthy for the volume of games we have coming up.

"But they can be really happy with today."
