Neil Lennon gushes over Celtic's win as he makes 'asset' claim on Leigh Griffiths

Celtic boss Neil Lennon insists his side should have scored more goals against Ross County and reckons a fully fit Leigh Griffiths could have had a hat-trick.

The Hoops manager was critical of Griffiths' fitness after the Scottish Cup Final and the striker hit back by saying he needed more game time.

He got that tonight and Griffiths got a goal and Lennon reckons he still needs to improve his fitness to continue being an asset to the club moving forward.

But he reckons Celtic could easily have won the game 6-0 and he was full of praise for the players who came into the side for adding more energy.

He said: "The whole performance and the quality of chances we created. It thought we should have won the game by a lot more but I was very pleased with the freshness of the boys who came in brought to the team. There was a good zest about us and I’m very pleased. A good three points and another step in the right direction.

"Slowly. We take it game by game, it was important to win and win well. I would have liked to have put more goals on the scoreline because I think our play deserved that, it was good intensity and real quality with some of our performance tonight. I’m delighted and we scored two good goals as well.

"Griff is never short of confidence. Getting a good 80 minutes into his legs is important and he could have got a hat-trick tonight. He needs to get sharper and he’ll probably say ‘You’ve got to play me’. The more he plays, the more he stays fit, the more he’ll be an asset for us going forward.

"We could have won the game 6-0 tonight. If we had taken our chances and maybe not taken the extra touch we could have put a good gloss on the scoreline, you can always analyse it and look for the perfect goal but we scored two good ones and could have scored more. Pundits are entitled to their opinion.

"The two full backs coming in, Soro, a bit of freshness and the two centre backs controlled things so it augurs well. It’s just building blocks, we take it a game at a time. We look forward to the game on Boxing Day with a little bit more confidence as we go along."
