Neil Lennon gives Celtic transfer update as boss admits club were 'gazumped' by Liverpool for Ben Davies

Neil Lennon is delighted about the prospect of Jonjoe Kenny signing for Celtic on Deadline Day.

The Everton full-back is on the verge of moving to Parkhead on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Lennon revealed the right-back is in Glasgow and hopes it will be made official this afternoon.

He said: "We just need the paperwork to be finished.

"He has been in the building, he travelled up last night so hopefully we can get that signed and sealed this afternoon."

Lennon is excited about the addition of the 23-year-old, adding: "He's a player I have liked for a while.

"He is at Everton obviously and had a very good career at England youth at under-21 level and I watched quite a bit of him last season when he was on loan at Schalke.

"I like his qualities, his enthusiasm for the game, his character and I think he will bring that to the team. He is a bubbly sort of personality and he plays that way as well. He is ready to start and itching to play as well."

Celtic are on the lookout for a new centre-half as well after missing out on Ben Davies who is set for a switch to Liverpool.

The Hoops were close to signing the Preston defender on a pre-contract deal before Jurgen Klopp's men made the 25-year-old an offer he couldn't refuse.

And Lennon admitted it's bitterly disappointing, but the club must move on as they look at a number of loan alternatives including Spurs rising star Japhet Tanganga.

He said: "Yeah, it's a blow.

"We were very close to doing that but obviously we got gazumped at the last minute by Liverpool.

"He lives in that area and obviously I'm sure financially it would have been quite rewarding for him as well.

"It's disappointing but we move on."
