Neil Lennon feeding off Rangers fans' jibes as Celtic boss vows to prove them wrong

Neil Lennon has vowed to prove the Rangers fans celebrating his appointment as Celtic boss wrong and steer the Hoops to nine in a row.

The permanent appointment of the Northern Irishman as Hoops manager has been met with an underwhelming response by his own support, who were demanding a big-name, like-for-like replacement for Brendan Rodgers.

And rival fans on social media have been gleeful, believing the low-key, post-Cup Final unveiling of Lennon as their pick ramps up their chances of ending Rangers’ title drought.

But Lennon shrugged: “They’ve been wrong before. On numerous occasions.

“So hopefully they’ll be wrong again.

“Brendan did the Invincible, then they won another treble and they were told they weren't as good as the previous year. Now they’ve gone and won another treble.

"He set a huge benchmark which I want to follow.

Rangers have got to try and stop us doing nine or ten, that’s their job, but I can’t comment on what Rangers are going to do or who they are going to recruit.

“We are going try and recruit the best players we can and give the squad a lift because it needs a lift.

“And give the players who have been at it for three seasons now the jag of quality in there that they need.”
