Neil Lennon favourite for Republic of Ireland job as bookies back Celtic hero

Celtic hero Neil Lennon has been tipped by the bookies for the Republic of Ireland job.

Current boss Stephen Kenny is under pressure after a poor Euro 2024 qualifying campaign in which his side took just six points from seven games.

And now Paddy Power has installed the ex-Parkhead manager as the favourite for the role.

Lennon has been out of work since last year after he was sacked by Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia due to a poor run of results.

He has also been linked with the Ross County job after Malky Mackay was sacked yesterday.

Meanwhile, former Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has landed a player-coach role with Australian side Mandurah City.

The ex-Scotland international, who also had stints at Livingston, Dundee, Hibernian, Falkirk and Wolves in the English Championship, moved down under last year to link up with SPFL journeyman John Baird and he has joined the coaching staff.

Griffiths scored 123 times for the Scottish champions during seven years in Glasgow and the 33-year-old now seems set to take the next step in his coaching career.

A club statement read: "We are pleased to announce our 2024 Mandurah City FC State League Division One Men’s Coaching Staff.

"Again our men will be lead by John Baird and he welcomes to his team Assistant Coaches Pete Taylor, Zach Headington and player-coach Leigh Griffiths.

"These coaches bring a huge amount of skill, experience and professionalism to the team. We also welcome the return of Mike Green as the goalkeeper coach for 2024.

"Mike has been part of our club for many years as a first-team goalkeeper and coach. We are thrilled to have Mike back on board."

Baird added: "I’ve been very fortunate to have good people and coaches around me since I’ve taken on the role as head coach.

"This year is no different with Pete Taylor joining us again which I am delighted about.

"Leigh Griffiths will be joining as player coach and I think Leigh’s experience and the high level Leigh has played at will be a massive bonus for our players."
