Neil Lennon delivers Celtic injury update ahead of Rangers clash as he makes St Mirren claim

Celtic manager Neil Lennon doesn't expect to have any of his injured players back for Sunday's Rangers game and insists his side deserved more goals against St Mirren.

The Hoops maintained their five point lead at the top of the Premiership with a 2-1 win at the Simple Digital arena and, despite a late consolation for the hosts, Lennon was delighted with the performance.

He told BT Sport: "I'm very pleased with the result and performance.

"We could have won the game by more and St Mirren got a bit of luck with the goal. That happens sometimes.

"Overall we should have won the game by more, we got two great goals on the counter-attack and to be fair their goalkeeper (Vaclav Hladky) made some great saves in the second half.

"I think at times we were over playing or maybe taking that one touch too many, but look I can't fault the team and I'm not going to.

"It's a really good win, we drew here last year so while we could have scored more we'll take the three points and it's an important three points as well."

The Celtic gaffer was then asked for the secrets behind an incredible 11-game winning run.

"They (the players) are very talented, they've got a great mentality and the fitness levels are very high.

"They've got great belief in each other and I'm delighted with what they're giving me and delighted to be working with them.

"They're exciting to watch, I'd have been sitting a lot more comfortably if we'd scored a couple more, which would have been unjustified on the performance.

"Once again I'm standing here saying the scoreline flatters the opposition and I think it does."

Jonny Hayes, Hatem Abd Elhamed and Mohamed Elyounoussi all missed out through injury today and Lennon doesn't expect to have them back for Sunday's showdown with Rangers.

He confirmed: "In terms of Elhamed and Elyounoussi I doubt it very much.

"So it's basically as you are today plus the squad as a whole, the subs and that.

"So no, no new faces. Anyway, they've been out of the game too long to come into a game of that magnitude."

That game gives Celtic the chance to end 2019 with an eight point lead at the top.

"It's a great incentive for us, we're on a brilliant run. Outstanding.

"It's been a really heavy month so we need to get them rested and recovered and look forward to a good game come Sunday."
