Neil Lennon confirms Andraz Sporar Celtic transfer talks as he reveals Sam Cosgrove change of heart

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has confirmed Celtic have held talks with Andraz Sporar over a potential switch to the Premiership champions.

The £5million-rated Slovan Bratislava striker is a wanted man with a host of clubs eyeing a January switch for the 25-year-old.

But the Hoops boss has warned any potential deal for the top scorer in Slovakian football remains a long way off.

Lennon said: "There were talks I believe yesterday (Monday) but he is one of a number of options that we are talking to at the minute. There is no further progress on that one."

It follows Slovan Bratislava chief Ivan Kmotrik revealing the striker was in discussions with the Premiership champions.

Speaking to Sport24 , Kmotrik said: “There are many people interested in Andraz and Celtic is the most aggressive yet.

“We have a meeting with the representatives of this club right now and we’ll see what happens.

"So far nothing is clear. We still don’t have an offer we would like to accept.

“We will not sell him cheaply and we will not release him for two or three million euros.

“His quality not only corresponds to the Slovak League, but also to the European level. We saw it in the Europa League. An offer of 2.5 or 3 million Euros would be disastrous. His market value is much higher.”

Meanwhile, Lennon believes Aberdeen forward Sam Cosgrove deserved to be sent off in Celtic's 2-1 win over the Dons on Saturday.

Cosgrove was was dismissed by referee Euan Anderson in the 69th minute after flying into Hoops defender Kristoffer Ajer.

The Pittodrie club have appealed against the decision and the case will now be heard by a Scottish Football Association fast-track disciplinary panel on Tuesday.

Dons boss Derek McInnes claimed at the weekend Lennon agreed with him that it wasn't a sending off but the Hoops boss has changed his view after having a second look.

Ahead of the trip to St Mirren on Boxing Day, the Celtic boss claimed Cosgrove's tackle was "unnecessary" and could have caused injury to his player.

"He did get a lot of the ball but there was intent there.

"I didn't think he needed to make the challenge in that area and the way he did it.

"Ten years ago I would have been happy with a challenge like that but with the game as it is now, on the follow-through it maybe could have hurt Kristoffer and he is maybe lucky that he didn't come off with a bad injury or an injury of some sort.

"Looking at it at the time, it was a full-blooded challenge but when you see it again I am thinking, 'Why are you making a challenge like that? You are setting yourself up for trouble'.

"So the way the game is, it was probably the correct decision. "You always worry when a player has left the ground that the excessive force could be dangerous."
