Neil Lennon claims Celtic should have hit Ross County for six as he admits Leigh Griffiths is 'never short of confidence'

Neil Lennon admits Celtic should have hit Ross County for six after watching his team dominate in a 2-0 win at Parkhead.

The Hoops took home all three points after fine goals from David Turnbull and Leigh Griffiths and they were denied several more after missed chances and good goalkeeping from Ross Laidlaw.

And Lennon feels his side could have gone away much more comfortable winners if they had been more decisive in front of goal.

He said: "We could have won by six tonight if we had taken our chances and not taken the extra touch.

"So we could have put a real gloss on the scoreline.

"You can always analyse it and look for the perfect goal but we scored two good ones and could have had a lot more."

Griffiths grabbed the second goal on his return to the starting line-up alongside Odsonne Edouard with a beautifully measured header to cap a decent all round display.

However, the Northern Irishman doubled down on his warning to keep his fitness levels up to remain in the team and become the asset he knows he can become.

He told the BBC: "Griff is never short of confidence. I just think getting 80 minutes into his legs helped and he could have had a hat-trick tonight.

"He will say 'play me' but I think the more he plays, the more he stays fit, the more he will be an asset for us going forward."

Lennon hopes to continue building momentum after going five games without defeat and gaining confidence from winning the Scottish Cup.

He told Celtic TV: “We want to get the level of performances and the wins.

"We are taking it game by game and not getting carried away. I'm pleased tonight. It was a comfortable performance and a great three points.”
