Neil Lennon Celtic 'end game' claim as Michael Stewart makes shock 'crumbling of an empire' statement

Michael Stewart reckons Celtic's Europa League exit could be the 'end game' for Neil Lennon at the club.

The Hoops crashed out of the competition after a 4-1 defeat to Sparta Prague.

Celtic opened the scoring through Odsonne Edouard, but suffered a collapse at the end of each half as the Czech side claimed successive wins over the Parkhead side.

The pressure continues to mount on Lennon and pundit Stewart reckons this could be the straw that breaks the camel's back for the Northern Irishman and even the 'crumbling of an empire'.

He said on BBC Sportsound: "Is this the crumbling of an empire? It certainly looks that way. It feels as if that could be the end game there for Neil Lennon.

"I don't see how it turns round from here. For there to be successive 4-1 defeats in Europe and switching between a back three, a back four and changing personnel.

"But nothing is really changing. The messenger is not being listened to now.

"Some can say it's unfortunate and some will say tough luck and that's the nature of the beast. That's the industry that we work in. But something is not right and something is not working. It's as if to me that could be the end."
