Neil Lennon blasts SFA as Celtic boss accuses them of 'buckling under pressure' over Albian Ajeti

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has laid into the SFA and accused them of 'buckling under pressure' by charging Albian Ajeti.

The Swiss striker escaped a ban on Tuesday when his charge was 'not proven' by the SFA tribunal and Lennon has questioned why it was even brought up.

The Celtic manager feels it was done as a bid to ease pressure on the SFA because of the pressure being put on them.

And he's pointed to an incident in the Celtic Park win over Motherwell at the weekend when Devante Cole was booked for a challenge on Ismaila Soro, which many felt should have been more.

Rangers striker Kemar Roofe is due in front of the panel on Wednesday and when asked if Old Firm players are unfairly targeted, Lennon said: “That doesn’t make it right. Our game against Motherwell was pretty high profile and the collision with Cole and Soro did look a little bit dubious.

“So is there a case for it to be looked at? If it’s a yellow card then fine, let’s move on because I’ve seen worse this season.

“But I’m flummoxed by this one with Ajeti and I don’t know if it’s come because of pressure from the public. I don’t know if it’s the Compliance Officer buckling under the complaints coming in.

“I certainly don’t think he has a case to answer but there you go.”

But while Lennon was unhappy with Ajeti being hauled up in front of the panel, he does feel that the compliance officer is a good move.

He was baffled by the fact Cole wasn't brought up for his challenge and is still frustrated by the decisions being made.

He added: “Ajeti’s compared to Cole’s is night and day. Listen, the last thing I look for is for players to be sent off. But compared to what Ajet’s done, why it’s not being looked at is beyond me.

“We are sort of re-refereeing games now which, in essence, is the right thing to do.

“But this one for me is clearly innocuous. We don’t encourage diving. I was always of the opinion that, if there’s no contact then that’s simulation. But there clearly is contact there.”
