Neil Lennon bites back at claims Celtic have lost their style since Brendan Rodgers left

Interim Celtic boss Neil Lennon has dismissed claims he has tried to stamp his own style on the Hoops team.

Celtic moved another step closer to eight in a row when Jozo Simunovic powered home a header at Celtic Park as the club beat Kilmarnock and paid tribute to former Lisbon Lions legend Billy McNeill.

While Lennon was delighted to win on an emotionally charged day, he dismissed claims he was trying to transform Celtic's style on the park.

Lennon said: "The first half we were a little bit off colour. The second half was more like it against a very good side.

"I like us to get on the front foot and take the game to them as much as we can.

"We asked for a lot more urgency and focus in the second half.

"I haven't changed the style, everyone's saying that. I've tried to tweak a few things but I don't want to change the style because that's what the players are used to.

"Why change it when you've won seven out of seven trophies and are on the cusp of winning the title?

"It would be folly of me to go 'right, we're ripping this up and doing it the way I want them to play'.

"We're playing the way they're used to playing under Brendan (Rodgers) and seeing it through.

"The tactics are the same and the personnel are more or less the same. I think people over-analyse what we do here."

While Celtic know they have to pick up just one more point to lift the Premiership title again, Lennon is preparing himself mentally for the league race to go down to the wire.

He added: "If we have to keep going we'll keep going. We'll just take it one game at a time.

"Everyone wants to look ahead (at the chance of a Treble treble) but as a manager I've got to stay in the present.

"My job it just to manage the team."
