Neil Lennon believes Liverpool is the best place for Caoimhín Kelleher right now

Neil Lennon believes Liverpool is the perfect place for Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher to continue his development.

The shot-stopper has been on the books at Liverpool for a number of years and has enjoyed great success as Liverpool's cup goalkeeper, memorably starring in last year's League Cup win at Wembley.

But Liverpool's poor form in cup competitions has seen Kelleher struggle for gametime this season, with the 24-year-old making just three appearances this season.

His lack of gametime is in stark contrast to his Ireland rival Gavin Bazunu who has been an ever-present for Southampton this season. Despite the lack of match action, former Celtic boss Lennon believes Kelleher is still in the perfect place to improve his game.

"Caoimhín Kelleher is still young for a goalkeeper and is very talented," said Lennon, who was speaking about Celtic vs Rangers Odds for Boylesports.

"He knows his role at Liverpool. It will be hard for him to get chances in the Ireland team with Gavin Bazunu getting the nod recently. I'm sure Kelleher wants to play more, there may be a time when he leaves Liverpool because he is capable of taking on a first-team role."

"But, Kelleher is working with one of the best goalkeepers in the world in Alisson and that's priceless for a young goalkeeper. Jurgen Klopp has a lot of faith in him and won't want him to leave. For now, Kelleher is in a good place.

"When I've seen Kelleher play, he's been excellent, the Liverpool players trust him too. Playing at that level won't give him any worries on going to any Premier League club and being the number one."
