Neil Lennon and the damning Celtic numbers that echo Parkhead managerial flops

Under-fire Neil Lennon is feeling the heat at Celtic after a torrid start to the season that hit a new low on Thursday.

Sparta's 4-1 victory in Prague mirrored the Czech side's rampant victory at Parkhead and sent the Scottish champions packing from the Europa League - with two games to spare.

They were the top seed heading into group H, but will now have to rescue their dwindling challenge for 10 In A Row to stand any chance of salvaging the season.

The defeat means Lennon has won just two of his last nine matches, which isn't a great look for any Celtic manager.

Compared to some of the worst managers in the club's recent history, however, it looks particularly damning.

Chris Sutton has added his name to the list of doubters and when Lennon's recent record is compared to the likes of the flop boss pair John Barnes and Tony Mowbray it doesn't make for good reading.

Last nine games W D L
Barnes 4 2 3
Mowbray 6 1 2
Lennon 2 3 4

And it gets worse for Lennon as his reputation as a seasoned European operator has been dealt a blow due to his side's creaky backline.

There are 48 teams in the Europa League and Celtic have conceded 13 goals - the most in the tournament after four games alongside Ludogrets.

The eight conceded in two games against Sparta Prague is proof that things need to change drastically but further misery could be incoming with two dead-rubber games against Milan and Lille still to play.
